Jerry Brown Fires up Crowd

Jerry Brown (former California governor, former Mayor of Oakland, current Attorney General of California) provided an electrifying warm-up act for Al Gore's talk at the Civic Auditorium this morning. In fact, some found him to be the main act.

In a suprisingly rousing keynote speech for West Coast Green, Brown drew on his own history in California policy-making, highlighting the derision his approach to meeting the needs of the times often drew. He also made a solid case for why accepting the status quo does not serve the public good, and why green activists should not be afraid to be labelled "weirdos" and "deviants." His message was warmly recieved by the auditorium full of listeners hungry to be part of a larger movement for re-building the natural and human resources of this country.
