Bookstore at West Coast Green

The cornucopia of books offered for sale at West Coast Green by Lafayette Book Store reflected well one of the main themes running through the conference - the interconnections among the systems (food, housing, transportation, energy, etc) that support human life. Dozens of books were displayed, ranging from theoretical to technical, from political to spiritual, and from academic to journalistic. Broad subject areas included the food system (failures, successes, and need for reform), renewable energy, green business and economics, permaculture and organic gardening, home building and remodelling, and community planning.

The owner, who organizes specialty collections for large events, was pleased overall with the fit between the offerings and the interests of conference attendees. The only big surprise, he said, was the demand for books on ecology written for children. The small supply of those sold out on day one.
